Somewhat related, and I wonder if you can answer this, Eric, or anyone else: I was a little surprised, knowing of OS X's multilingual capabilities, to see that the international System prefs (and Software Update, too) offered me various Asian languages (Japanese, Traditional and Simplified Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese as Unicode) as well as numerous Western European languages (all using varieties of Roman script), but non of the Cyrillic (Russian, Bulgarian, Ukrainian) nor even Central European (Czech, Slovak, Polish, Hungarian) that the OS 9 Language Kits offered. When I was booted in OS 9.2.2 recently, I installed Japanese, Trad Chinese, Cyrillic/Russian, Central European and Hebrew language kits. Having rebooted into 10.1.3, I now find all the Cyrillic and Central European scripts available in the Keyboard Menu options in International System Prefs. So it seems that you have to install them in OS 9 to get them in OS X? Is this right? Does it make sense? Three Cyrillic Character Formats now also show up in Entourage's Format menu - I don't think they were there before. And what happened to Hebrew? It doesn't show up in the Keyboard panel, but various Hebrew fonts claim to exist in my Entourage Font prefs and in TextEdit. TextEdit refuses to type any characters in them, however - it just switches to my previous font. Maybe there's some right-to-left setting that has to be made first.
