Your advice is exactly what I was doing. The thing is, I create the event
while in the eastern time zone. Then, when I arrive in Los Angeles, and set
my computer to the local time out there, the event in Entourage has been
moved three hours from what it should be. Note that one of the features
lacking in OS-X is something akin to the former Location Manager. You
cannot specify "Pacific Time Zone" as a location that will reset your
date/time preferences automatically. The "Location" feature in System
Preferences does not deal with the clock.
Try it, using the example below, and you will see what I mean.
Make believe you are Woody Allen. You are using your computer in the
eastern time zone. Now, create an event called "Go to the Academy Awards"
and plan to have the event begin at 5:00 PM. Use the Time Zone sub menu to
assign it to the Pacific Time Zone, and it will tell you that the time has
been adjusted for you in your calendar. You think: cool!
Then, get on your imaginary charter jet and go to Los Angeles. When you
arrive, you go to your system preferences and change your computer to the
Pacific Time Zone. If you look at your events you would see that you are
scheduled to be at the Academy Awards at 8:00 PM. But you're Woody Allen,
and you trust your software, so you don't bother looking.
In your hotel room you are sipping champagne and taking a nap with a
youngster, and when you wake up at 7:00 to get dressed. When you arrive at
the Kodak Theater you discover that the event began three hours ago and you
missed your chance to be on national TV.
It's not so bad if you are Woody Allen. If you are Denzel Washington, you
are REALLY annoyed.
