You're on OS 9 - you have those features provided by your appearance manager - something that OS X has dropped support for. > Would you (or anyone else) mind explaining the following > terms/procedures/software: theme switcher, ShadowKiller, the procedure you > describe These are special third party apps and utilities that allow (kinda) to restore functionality that OS 9 already had - the ability to change themes and appearances. The reason I suggested this, stems from OS X's default theme, which is Aqua, which is very CPU intensive, using transparency and drop shadows. The theme switcher allows installing a theme that uses no transparency, and ShadowKiller eliminates the drop shadows that OS X is full of. Once those are removed, the system can run up to 200% faster - which is a significant speed-up (or previously, slow down) however you look at it. > and why this demonstrates Office's lack of culpability in this > matter. I hope I'm not asking for too much since I don't know what I'm > asking for :-). OS X, formerly slow as molasses under OS X, speeds up considerably once these tools are activated as described. You can also further use a tool called 'TinkerTool' to disable anti-aliased text, another reasons for significant overhead, and the entire system is almost back to OS 9 speeds - Entourage and all. Proof positive that the Operating System, instead of being a facilitator, causes more troubles than it is (in my opinion) worth.
