Tools / Rules / Mail (POP or IMAP)
Instead of "only messages that are filtered into a particular folder", set
the criteria to whatever you want, and make two actions:
Reply --> (you'll get a window for an Auto-Reply message)
Move message to Folder --> choose your folder
You can also go to
Tools / Rules / Outgoing Rules
and set up suitable criteria for trying to catch your own Auto-Replies , and
file them in a particular folder too. One way to do that would be add a
third action to the mail Rule:
Change Subject <Add prefix> <Auto Respond>
Then, for your Outgoing Rule, make that the criterion
Subject <Contains> <Auto Respond>
and the action to
Move message to Folder
(Something you may have tried already and been flummoxed by is that the
"Folder" criterion for Outgoing Rules doesn't appear to work or make much
sense. Its only useful when you're applying rules manually to selected
messages in a Custom View, not applying automatically from enabled Outgoing
Rules. Outgoing Rules are really "Outgone Rules" - they work on messages
just after they've been sent, when the message is in the Sent Items folder.
Similarly, regular Mail (POP) rules act automatically on messages that have
just been downloaded and are thus in your Inbox . Mail (IMAP) rules act on
just-received messages that are in your IMAP INBOX.)
Hope this helps.
