In order to quit it you need to select 'turn off office notifications' in
the Entourage menu.

An alternative method is to run the one-line applescript:

Tell app "microsoft database daemon" to quit

In actual fact, I have installed SR1 without quitting the daemon, and it
works OK. I believe the sr1 installer will quit the daemon if it's running
anyway. So, why do they need to put up the warning? Who knows.

The wording in the dialog could be much improved.
