The "Entourage slowing down the system" thing is quite possibly a bug in Jaguar.... Much like how Jaguar breaks (again) Carbon apps that launch while the monitor is sleeping. Investigation under way.
As for the MS Mouse software -- and I apologize if I haven't been following this thread well -- but are you using Zing in IE? It's a very naughty app that is bound to cause problems.
