In the meantime, I've been deleting freeware or demo shareware utilities that I am aware of, such as Max Menus, Default Folder X and TinkerTool. What folder in OS X would I look in to see _all_ the extensions that are loading at startup that might cause problems? Also I notice that there are five "Microsoft Database Daemons" listed in the "Login Items" preferences pane. Some are of kind "unkown," others say "application." A couple have what appear to be an Entourage icon, the rest generic icons. Do I need all five of those there? What are they doing for me?
