Diane is probably quoting someone else, so I'll chime in here. You most certainly can't 'play sound' - that's a scripting addition (Jon's Commands) which doesn't exist yet in OS X, or rather it's in beta and missing, I think, the 'play sound' command since system sounds are no longer available that way. But a script can get iTunes, for example, to play mp3 sound files. I haven't done one of thse myself, so don't ask me, but I'm sure there must be some at AppleScript Central <http://www.applescriptcentral.com/>
