Nominally, the Palm Organizer allows fifteen categories per application. In theory then, it should be possible to sync 60 different categories to Entourage with the limitation, as previously noted, that any item on the Palm can have only one category. Further, while Palm calendar events do have an entry in the Palm database for category, there is not a way to display the category information on the Palm itself (some third party applications do allow display of the category information). Moreover, it appears in creating the Hotsync software for OS X, Palm removed the ability to synchronize categories for calendar entries. Thus the practical limit on the Palm (up to OS 4 and without third party calendar applications) is 45 categories.

Entourage apparently merges similarly named categories that were created on the Palm into a single category in the Entourage database; it is not clear to me if this then limits the total number of categories that can be synchronized with the Palm to fifteen or not. You’ll need to get an answer from the Entourage conduit developers on this point.

Since I have not yet seen the new Tungsten device with Palm OS 5, I have no idea as to the situation on these devices.
