It sounds like you are on the right track. I thought of a few things that might be causing your problem.
Do you have Office 2001 still on your computer? If not, that's most likely the problem. You should simply insert the Office 2001 CD into the drive when you perform the operation. You don't need to re-install it. Also, you said you are running Classic. Is Entourage 2001 open at that time? It really shouldn't be to make sure there aren't any problems. If you continue having problems, try turning off Classic and see if that makes a difference.
