I don't think the option key signal can in any way be related to the database, so that doesn't surprise me. You may have to reinstall Office v X however. I think you already tried removing Preferences/Microsoft?
Use the Office Remover that came on the CD (Value Pack maybe) to remove all of Office. It won't ouch your data. Empty the trash. Reinstall Office v. X. Apply 10.1.2 updater.
