Assuming you are using OS X, quit from Entourage. Find the "Microsoft User Data:Office X Identities" folder. (It's in the "Documents" Folder in your Home directory.) Copy the folder "Main Identity" to the Desktop. Rename it "2002 Mail". Copy it back in "Office X Identities". Rename the file still on the desktop "Original Main Identity". That's your backup. In case you make a mistake, you can rename it "Main Identity", copy it back, and start over from the beginning.
Start up Entourage. Switch to the new identity and delete mail later than 2002 by doing an advanced find, check from "All Folders" and "Date Received" is less than, say 210 days (depending on when you do this). Select all the mail that is found and delete it. Check to make sure you have what you want. Switch back to your Main Identity and in a similar way delete mail received earlier than 2003 except you say "Date Received" is greater than, say 210 days.
