If you mean a prefix something like "[Entourage] ", yes, that will mess up
the threading. Some mailing lists prepend such strings to the subject. The
way they interfere with threading is why I strip them out with a script.

I don't think you can really call this an "abnormality." Entourage is
grouping things alphabetically by subject, and with the variety of prefixes
anyone might throw in, expecting it to ignore the prefix, ignore the "Re: "
or "Fw: " as well (which it does now when there are no other prefixes
present), and sort by the rest of the line, is asking a bit much. Newsgroups
retain threading by reference numbers that mail messages don't have, so
newsgroups can retain threading even if someone completely changes the
subject! Unfortunately, there is no way (currently, and I hope ever) to
_enforce_ such a standard on every mail client out there, so it won't happen
with email. If you change the subject...and that's what adding a prefix is
doing...you break the threading.
