I found this old post in a thread about Entourage and Courier IMAP:

I have the same problem.

I use both Entourage on Mac OS 9 and Entourage X. All I want is what I had
with my previous IMAP server: folders at the "top level" under my IMAP
account, including INBOX. So far, I haven't been able to achieve that with
courier imapd and Entourage.

I've tried setting the "Root folder" in Entourage's account settings to
everything I could think of: "INBOX", "INBOX.", "Maildir/INBOX", etc. The
closest I can get is what is described above: with a prefix of "INBOX",
everything looks normal, but I can no longer access my INBOX to get new
email, which is kind of a problem :)

This is courier-imap-2.1.1 and Entourage 9.0.2 (4011) on Mac OS 9 and
Entourage X 10.1.1 (2418).

I even tried evil stuff like this on the server side:

    cd ~/Maildir/inbox
    mkdir .Inbox
    cd .Inbox
    ln -s ~/Maildir/inbox/new
    ln -s ~/Maildir/inbox/cur
    ln -s ~/Maildir/inbox/tmp

and then I set my "Root dir" in Entourage to be "inbox". That "almost"
worked. I could see my new, fake "Inbox" folder and its contents at the
root level alongside my other folders, but I'd never see any new mail arrive
anywhere.

So now I'm back to a blank "Root dir" in Entourage, which means every folder
is nested under INBOX. It looks totally dumb, but at least it functions.

Anyway, is anyone out there using the Courier IMAP server with Entourage,
but without having every folder nested under INBOX?
