Title: Yikes: Neither rebuilds work
I need major help.
I purchased a new G5 (2 Ghz, 1.5 RAM) last week, preloaded with Panther (long story, legally loaded, and yes, I did purchase it).
Entourage worked perfectly for the past week, right up until an hour ago; I happened to restart the G5, and upon starting up Entourage, got the message “Entourage cannot access your data. To attempt to fix this problem, rebuild your database.”
I of course immediately did a Normal rebuild. Got the same message. So I did an Advanced. Got the same message. So I rebuilt permissions, restarted, ran fsck, restarted, ran Cocktail, and tried Entourage again. Same thing. Did this Normal/Advance rebuilt attempt a total of 3 times. Tried to run DiskWarrior, but DW doesn’t seem to be able to boot from a Panther OS yet.
Ok, here’s where it gets interesting: I decided to see if I could get my Database to work on my G4 Powerbook (which was completely empty, other than a newly installed Panther). So, I loaded up Office ((with all the updates) onto the Powerbook, ethernetted over the Database from the G5, restarted, and voila: it worked! That “corrupted” Database on the Panther G5 works fine on Panther G4 Powerbook!
I have since tried removing Office completely from the G5, and reinstalling Office (with all the updates), and ethernetting back the G4 Database back to the G5 (in case it had somehow grabbed some good mojo while over there), but nothing gets it to work on the G5.
To recap: A Database on a G4 Panther works fine. That same Database worked great for a week, and now has stopped working, even with completely reinstalling Office.
Any other ideas?
If possible, please email me directly at [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thank you so much.
