That moron was me. Since calendar events use black text on a colored background, the 
color needs to be light enough to allow sufficient contrast for readability. Hence the 
reason why the color is lightened for event backgrounds, but is not for the text of 
items in lists. We did explore leaving the color the same and using white text, but 
that made the calendar look really heavy, or the lists look too light.

Thanks, I know how to edit the colors, that's not the problem. The problem
is that some moron at Microsoft decided to mute/pastelize the colors. I was
trying to find a way to change the colors in the calendar so they actually
match what I have defined in "categories". Becuase pastel blue on pastel
grey with dark grey text just ain�t doing to for me!
