Is this pausing behavior normal for a multi-tasking OS, or do I have a
problem?

I don't know the details of how Entourage is designed, but it seems as though it doesn't like to multi-task while it's running an AppleScript (as it does for each message filtered by SpamSieve). In contrast, Apple Mail doesn't seem to slow down at all while filtering messages.

There's not really anything SpamSieve can do about the pause in Entourage, except perhaps make it shorter. If you want to e-mail <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, I'd be happy to look at your setup and possibly suggest a way to speed it up.
