That is just what AOL wants them to believe.
The fact is, even if they can't export their contacts and have to cut and copy or even manually enter them into a real email client (Entourage for example) the end result will be a savings of internet ISP savings and freedom to manage any number of email addresses through one client.
They can't loose by ditching AOL. If there ever was an "opiate of the masses" AOL is it. It not only delivers a constant IV of uncontrollable advertising, it obviously causes delusions of helplessness among its users.
Get them off AOL before their brains melt.
