Boy, I sure hate to start this debate for the umpteenth time but I can't resist replying to this :-).
An email thread is not a conversation in the strict sense; it's a correspondence that has a conversational quality. If it were a conversation, I wouldn't be able to delete and rewrite sections, I wouldn't have to hit Reply and I certainly would ignore spelling errors :-). But ... each to his or her own.
