I ran into this same problem with a Office V.x install yesterday. I have no
idea what was going on, it was a new Imac, the software was just bought as
well. I thought it had something to do with the pre-installed demo on the
imac, I deleted all traces of Office and it went ok. I did first try to use
the uninstaller in the Value Pack folder, which did not work.

The client is insistent it is another issue, which I would like to confirm.
She has a 3 pack for Office, one of the serial numbers was used and
installed on a powerbook, for about 3 hours before the powerbook was
returned to Apple for a bad keyboard. Since the above trouble happened when
I told her it was fine to use the serial that was used in the install of a
returned machine, she was pretty sure it was cause the serial number was
"dead". I don't know that there is a database somewhere that the serial
numbers need to talk to, this would imply internet connections were needed
to get Office installed. So, whats the story on this, is the serial really
dead, or can it be used just fine still?
