Don't try Cmd-Delete, as it will delete the entire message. The best I know
is to do Shift-Option-left arrow to select the word, then Backspace to
delete. There is a preference under General prefs to select Microsoft Office
keyboard shortcuts for editing text, but "delete previous word" does not
appear to be among them; check the Help under "Microsoft Office shortcuts".

I'm not certain. You could try setting MLM to allow further rules, and then
set up a first rule to do "if is from mailing list do not notify", and see
if that works (and make that rule disable subsequent rules).
