I’ve searched through the archives, but I can’t find anything on this problem. I have one IMAP account, and it has an inbox with Sent, Trash, and Saved as sub-folders. I cannot seem to get these out of the Inbox. Each of these inherits the column view of the inbox, but it is not really necessary to know who the message is FROM or the RECEIVED date in the Sent items folder. I’ve changed them many times to TO and SENT, and done the “Repair message list” thing, but with no luck.
Does anyone know any reasons for this or have any suggestions?
It's got nothing to do with Entourage. Some IMAP servers and "mailboxes" (for example mac.com accounts) are of the type the every folder, including the "special" folders, are subfolders of the INBOX. That's just how it is, you have to live with it. You cannot create folders parallel to the INBOX, which is the only top-level folder. Don't forget that you're dealing with a real live server, pre-configured , here, not electrons on your computer. You'll just have to live with it. Other IMAP servers are not of that type. I have one of each.
Thanks for the info, Paul. So I’ve set up an outgoing mail rule (my outgoing mail goes thru my regular SMTP server) that says to copy all mail to a folder on my computer. Now I can set up the columns the way I like, and the only cost is the extra disk space to store my outgoing messages. Now I can see who the messages went to. Not the worst solution.
