Well, thanks to all who responded.

It seems that the consensus is that one needs a Windows machine with some
unknown software to create an HTML message showing no attachments. Mozilla's
Thunderbird was suggested but Stephanie No�l Gerace was very kind and tried
it. At least on my machine, the graphics showed as attachments. I wonder if
the same would happen if sent from the Windows version of Thunderbird?
Marsha L. Hillson Gerace (coincidence?) kind of seconded these findings.
Barry Wainwright suggested links; we have clients and friends whose
firewalls will not even accept those.
My next step is to try to contact people whose messages fit our criteria and
ask them how they do it.
