The big diffference is that the new metaphor is that it is based around the idea of grouping emails, rather than simply threading. Each group gets a large heading panel present for even one mail in the group. Sometimes you will lose selection focus when deleting a whole group. i think that's a bug. There is also the issue of the selection focus going the "wrong way" for your preference.
