You lose getting reminders (Office Notifications) of events and tasks due to
remind you before the next time you open Entourage. As soon as you open
Entourage, the Database Daemon returns. So you can just launch Entourage as
soon as you want your reminders back. It's also immediately put back into
Login Items.

To temporarily turn off the Daemon there's no need to remove it from Login
Items and reboot (which requires you to close all open applications first).
Just open Activity Monitor in /Applications/Utilities/, select "Database
Daemon" and click the "Quit Process" button.
