Title: Re: Exporting from Entourage to Address Book
Hi Paul,
I guess since you chose to respond in a public forum instead of off-list, I suppose I’ll do the same.

I didn’t recall that you were “the guy” when I wrote my comments on my experience with Sync E/AB. If I had, I would have addressed you as such and communicated the details of my story with you personally, off-list.

Nevertheless, trying to remember back (as it has been awhile), I think I must have read as far as your phrase, “Go to Kagi and get the $8 Upgrade to Panther” and no further, deciding that I didn’t want to pay for an upgrade to something I had only used a few times and as a result, lost some address data. (Not reading the complete message is one of of my bad habits.) I was willing to try a newer version, hence my inquiry about an upgrade for Tiger, but not spend the $8 to test the improvements. (Besides, I am increasingly nervous about supplying credit information to strangers in today’s atmosphere of identity-theft. After thwarting one attempt, I have ceased buying online with credit accounts. Burn me once, shame on him. Burn me twice, shame on me.)

Admittedly, losing the addresses could have been “pilot error”, so shoot me for being stupid and not understanding how to use it. Be that as it may, I had removed all traces of the software and had trashed the paperwork, with an “Oh well.”

You wrote:
I don't see any complaint here or request for refund. (I can't find any earlier message from you since your original Jaguar purchase on March 28, 2003 – do you have a copy?)

True, I was mistaken about that, I did not complain to you, Thanks to your refreshing the details, I now recall writing to Kagi (who is he, anyway?) and though I did not directly ask for a refund, neither did I receive an offer for one. Indeed, I received no response at all. As for your parenthetical question, I keep my E’rage mailboxes empty, for the most part. I dump the “Deleted” daily and the “Sent” monthly.

Unless someone can give me replicable steps that creates problems, there's no way I can track it down or fix it.

Understood. However, after this much time and having upgraded to Tiger, I couldn’t possibly recreate that.

...did you really not use it all that time you were in Jaguar?

I was initially gun-shy. I used it a few times before I discovered the loss, so I cannot point to which occasion, then I stopped using it for fear of losing more. Subsequently, I reformatted and upgraded to Panther soon after it was released. When I discovered there was a Panther update, I thought it might fix whatever was the cause of the loss. I tried to use my existing registration but it would not work. I wrote to Kagi about that but I don’t recall if I received a response. Perhaps I did not use the correct address for assistance from him. At this point, I know not.

...since Apple completely re-did Address Book and its AppleScripting for Panther, and it took me about 3 months to re-write the script. There have been some 27 free updates since that point...

I would never say that you should not be compensated for your efforts. By all means, make sure you are. I just chose not to pay for an upgrade, based on having already paid for a version that I abandoned since I could not get it to work properly, maybe because of my own ineptitude. In any case, I believe the point is moot. Drag & drop or export/import work just fine for my needs. Thanks for the chat.

My 3¢.
