I think the error you are encountering relates to outgoing mail in your entourage account preferences. Easiest thing when traveling is to get an smtp account (go to smtp.com) which is 14 dollars for a month. You then replace existing xxx.net in OUTGOING MAIL address with smtp.com (the web site explains). This is a common problem. Don't forget to change back to your original setting when you get back home and your month is up.
