A client of mine uses V.x and hit the 4GB issue in it. He has been totally
unable to rebuild it, it just crashes his Entourage. The file is
4,294,966,800 bytes.

He has also tried importing it into 2004, it takes about 100MB of it, slams
through the rest, does not even set up his accounts correct, and bails out.

I got a copy of the database, and was able to use V.x and get an advanced
rebuild to happen. This only dropped it down to 4,294,608,672, so it barely
did anything.

Trying to open that in V.x of course gives me the error of being over 4GB,
trying to import it into 2004 and I get all of a few emails to come in.

Suggestions?

The most recent backup is months old. I am considering, as a last ditch
effort, to chop the database of the last 50MB or so, and see if I can repair
that. I know it would be corrupt, but there is a chance I can get the app
open long enough to get what I need. I however, do not know anything about
the V.x database, and maybe it would be best to take the beginning off, or
the end, or the middle, I just do not know. Any suggestions on an app to
help with this, split on the command line is not too flexible.

Is the 4GB error something that can be upped just a little, with resedit
maybe, just to allow me to get into the file, delete a few large messages,
and then compact?

This data is hugely important to my client, and I would really be saving the
day if I can get him back into the last few months of it.

thanks
