I have about 50 faculty, all with the same install of Office 2004 with all the updates. A few of them (~10) are experiencing an issue where an attachment is received, they try and open it, and an error pops up stating that the program is in use/busy even though it is not. Saving the attachment to the desktop then opening seems to work.

“In attempting to open attachments sent via e-mail, whether it's Word or Excel documents, a message will appear:  "Word/Excel cannot open this document.  The document may be in use or might not be a valid Word/Excel document."  I can save it to the desktop, then open it.  What is happening and what is the solution to over-ride this annoyance?  Please advise.

Thanks.”

I have looked at a working entourage and one with an issue, but they are exactly the same. I have tried re-updating, starting from scratch, but the issue still seems to pop up.

Any ideas? Thanks!
