Sounds as if it might be time to rebuild the Entourage database.  Afterwards, 
you might launch Disk Utility (Applications > Utilities) and Repair Disk 
Permissions on the system drive (be sure you quit all applications first; 
restarting is good to clear everything first).

I see the same behavior - probably twice a month or so.  I just quit Entourage 
and restart it.
