Our tech staff provides support for over 28 Macs both PPC and Intel
(desktop, laptops, Mac minis). We currently have two Intel iMacs in our
division running at 10.4.8 with Office 11.2.6. No problems installing
Office 2004 on the Intel Macs nor installing Office updates.

NOTE: It is our procedure to first start up a new Mac to register it,
then wipe the drive and install just a basic OS with very few extra
applications; our way of standardizing our Macs for the ease of
troubleshooting problems and keeping all Macs updated.

Beth Phillips:

My first question would be: are you just installing just Entourage or
the full Office 2004 suite? If the full Office 2004, then it is just a
drag-and-drop procedure. I suggest the following:

1. As always, install the latest OS X updates. Run Disk Utility >
Repair Disk Permissions afterwards.

2. Be sure all applications are closed.

3. Go into your Preferences folder and delete all Office preferences or
files (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Entourage, etc.), or at least check that
they are gone. Make sure your MUD folder has been deleted as well.

4. Then launch Excel or PowerPoint first (not Word or Entourage) to
launch the Office Auto-updater assistant (or find it in your
Applications folder above your Microsoft Office folder. Drag the alias
on the Dock to the left of the System Preferences to use later.

5. Close Excel/PowerPoint.

6. Run Auto-updater again. You should have 11.2.5 first then 11.2.6 to
install.

7. Once installed, run Disk Utility > Repair Disk Permissions again.

8.  Launch Excel or PowerPoint first; then close.  Then launch Word;
close. Now launch Entourage. All this helps bring the updates into
each application.

Also, you might try booting your Mac up on the DVD OS X installation
disk to use Disk Utility (Tools > Disk Utility) to use Repair Disk on
your system disk; I've done this before without having to install or
reinstall the OS.

I hope this pinpoints the problems and resolves them.

Subject: Entourage Crashing - can't get setup

We just purchased a new MacBook. It is running 10.4.8 and I'm trying to
install Entourage 2004.

After the initial install the Microsoft Updater ran and installed the
Office
11.2.5 and 11.2.6 updates. When I tried to launch Entourage the program
crashed after the appearance of the splash screen and I got an
unexpectedly quit error.

I ran Disk Utility to repair permissions and still no luck.
Trashed the MUD folder and user preferences - same results.

I removed Entourage using the Remove Office utility and reinstalled it.
This time I didn't run any of the updaters so I'm running v 11.0.0.

I still couldn't get the application to launch.
I trashed the MUD folder and installed one that I had setup for a
Default User from some G5s I had previously installed. Now I can get
Entourage to launch but when I try to edit the default user or create a
new one the program crashes with the unexpectedly quit error.

I tried the fix found here for running Office applications on Intel Macs
and this didn't work.

Is there anything else I can do that will get Entourage up and running?
