That seems to have done the trick! Thanks Diane. I had the MS Office file
but the MS Entourage file was not in that directory. Putting it in made
spotlight appear in prefs, so I am rebuilding as I write. Seems like that
is a bug on MS's part, and could be easily addressed in the updater (which I
had just run to bring me up to 11.3.6, per Roger's suggestion).

Thanks all for the help!

You're probably missing this files:

Microsoft Entourage.mdimporter and Microsoft Office.mdimporter should be in
root Library folder:

Library/ Spotlight/

You can download the files here and manually drag it to the
Library/Spotlight folder.

For some reason, updaters have failed to install the files. One incident
where this happens is when you are running a pre-Tiger OS where Spotlight
wasn't an option. You upgraded Entourage but your OS couldn't be upgraded.
When you did upgrade the OS, unless you went back and re-installed Office,
the mdimporter files would be missing. Other times, they just didn't
install.

You might need to restart and run Repair Permissions to get them to show up
after installing.

Let us know if you still have problems.
