Perhaps I'm not clear on the nature of your problem but, have you tried toggling your message to HTML before adding photos to the message body (just above where you start typing your message there is a box with "abcd" in it -- toggle that to "Use HTML")?? I can drag a photo into the message body without problem (no file attachment is added at this stage). After sending the message, the photo is still visible in the sent message body (still no file attachment). Upon receipt of the message (I sent one to myself as a test), the photo is still in the message body (but now there is also a matching file attachment)....
