It would be helpful to know what computer you are using, your processor,
your OS version, and the amount of RAM installed.  It would also be helpful
to know the circumstances surrounding the "freeze."  What else were you
doing at the time?  Also, it would be good to know what sort of "freeze" you
had -- Entourage locked up? Or the entire Mac locked up?  How did you
recover from the freeze?

In the meantime, you might try restarting.  Then, run Disk Utility.app.

Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility.app

Run "Repair Disk Permissions."  See if that helps.

After that, while in Disk Utility.app, run "Verify Disk."  If Disk
Utility.app shows that your hard drive needs repair, boot on your original
installation CD/DVD, and run Disk Utility.app from the CD/DVD.  You will
then be able to "Repair Disk."
