Larry, I think the key combo IS opt-K if you select a font that contaqins
the apple character, like Times.

The Apple character does show up in the Character Palette if you choose View
> Glyph, and then a font that contains the Apple. Times and Courier are the
fonts that I know offhand do have that symbol.
