        I've never really seen the need for this feature.
If you send someone a letter in the mail and they are away you don't hear back from them until they return and receive the letter. Why should I expect an instantaneous response to my e-mail? Add to that the ability of most people to access their e-mail even when they are "out of the office."
        I can see the use of "away" messages in instant messaging programs.
But I don't see any need for "I'm away from the office" messages when dealing with e-mail.
