In certain business situations, such as mine, business can be lost if emails
are not attended to promptly. A sales order, for example, or request for
information.

And it is precisely because of that that I would never count on an OOO
message. If I am going to be without access to email for an extended period
of time, I arrange for someone to cover for me and check my email while I am
gone. Telling a potential client or business partner that I'm not around and
that it's /their/ responsibility to contact someone else is unacceptable, at
least in my industry.
