I was in text only, not a big deal, I put it back in.

Just to satisfy my knowing what the heck is going on, what changed? I at
least managed to get a special font, ProFont, used at 9, to look ok and not
scrunch up, granted, it was blurry, but I am getting by.

Why was it that behavior could not at the very least be maintained?

In summary, I take it there is nothing I can do, and until WASTE is tossed
in the bin, I am stuck with this?

I really thank you for being candid and giving me answers on this, I can at
least make plans around it and decide if I want to tough this out. Do you
think if and when WASTE goes away, this will all get back to normal?

I know I was stretching with the analogies to audio apps, as they are really
specific and need such features. As it is now, I have old copies of these
old apps that I use to extract the sounds out of a sound set, and make
versions at 90, 80, 70, 60 percent levels, and find which ones to use.

I am guessing there must be audio cruft in there, as far as I know, local
app sound levels are native to OS X, and pretty easy to just drop in, there
must be some legacy stuff in there. Understood.

Thanks again.
