That'll do it. Try 2008 without SpamSieve or any other rules looking for Junk, using Junk Filter on High. It's really excellent - I get something like 98% or 99% accuracy with 0.000% false positives.
But if you have oodles of rules moving messages to other folders, that also slows things down.
