Frankly, I've seen this problem on a pristine Leopard install. It was bad in 
beta, and has barely improved.

You need to look for something outside of MSFT files that could be causing
the problem.

Log out/in with shift key down. Test. Do you see any improvements? If yes,
then look to a start up item causing the problem.
