I think a 10 GB database is playing with fire.

Many emails I receive from my clients have large attachments. I have taken
to removing the attachments from the emails. I am now moving the attachment
to a Finder folder, copying the name of the file in the Finder, editing the
email and pasting the name of the file into the body of the email.

Entourage is supposed to live a trail of "Name_of_File Was Removed...." but
it doesn't always work, and if it does, it works only for one file per
message, not for multiple files.

Even very large messages with attachments become very small messages once
the attachment is removed. A 10 MB message with the attachment becomes 5k
in size. After I removed the attachments, my database started behaving much
better.

Also, any backup/duplication/clone strategy you use with a 10 GB database is
going to be bogged down by the large size of the database.
