There shouldn't be an Office 2004 folder - for that version of the suite, the preferences are stored in: ~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft Does the Office 2008 folder have any files ending with '...(12)', e.g. 'Excel Toolbars (12)'? If not, I'm not sure you're looking in quite the right place. There's no harm in dumping 'Office Font Cache (11)', as well, but it probably won't solve anything, either.
