Those are excellent resources but I think IMAP is over my head. I do not understand the double lists of folders. In the 2nd list, drafts do not appear in Drafts nor deleted messages in Trash. What is that? If, as recommended in your first link, in the account Options I put Root Folder: [gmail], I don't get a double list but I get only Inbox - no other folders. Is there a link to explain this wierdness?
I would be satisfied with gmail as POP except that I can't get it to be received on two computers in the same account or to address myself in a BCC. Is there a way to do this?
