Don, Garmin and Magellan consumer GPS units default to WGS84. But many users, me included, change it right away to match the maps that we are working with. I've bounced between NAD83 and NAD27 frequently. I'm sure that some others have changed their datums, too, although most don't even know what they are and leave it alone.
