Here are some pix of the needles and twigs. I wanted to confirm that the white fuzzy stuff is HWA. And then a forlorn picture of a huge gap left by dead hemlocks - mostly removed by garden staff. I saw that Prunus serotina, red maple, the devil, beech, sweetgum, and ash were beginning to fill the large gap. The ash may have been planted manually. .Also, a few happier, healthy trees in the Garden for you to guess about and 2 postcards c. 1906 of the days when Hemlocks were the main event.
