I think that in most of the country where private woodland ownership  is 
common the timber harvesting done on a majority of private land is  driven by 
short term economic gain.       
 
Anyone who spends a majority of their time in the woods on public  
land....which many in ENTS do in pursuits such as walking, hiking or  measuring 
trees, it can become fairly easy to develop a warped sense of  expectations in 
terms of the health, status or even quality of forest management  practices 
that take place on private land where most people never tread.  
 
I also agree with Joe about the woefully small number of people in the  
forestry profession that "get it".... and the worn out condition of those  that 
do.
