I guess old Ken Dubuque is pretty much rolling in his grave these  days!!  
 
When you live in the land of mountaintop removal it is hard to imagine a  
place where the woods can be treated more poorly than they are in front of a  
strip mine.   
 
If you ever are passing through West Virginia and want to make your mind  
wander a little visit the Widen poplar.  It is in the middle of a valley  
that was strip mined and the tree and about four or five acres of native woods  
around it are all that is left.  When you see the stature of the tree and  
its associates you can only wonder what was lost in the process of mining 
that  coal.
