Hi,
It's typical for the Sour Gums to start in August or as early as July. I can't 
remember at the moment regarding other species though. I did notice yesterday 
that a lot of Swamp Maples are changing (that's red maple). I believe dogwoods 
and sassafras are changing too. It seems oaks are always the last.

Even here in south GA we see the swamp tupelo typically start dropping
in late August and September. It is the ones in very wet areas and is
more a function of the swamps drying in the late summer I would
assume.
