For my two cents, I would say Chestnut also as it definitely doesn't favor the Chikapins I'm familiar with. Also from the brief view of the twig and leaves I would discount Chinese Chestnut also. As for it's location out of range, it could have been an old homeplace where all remnants of the house or cabin are gone. Did you find it along an old road? See any old bottles or other debris around? Down here we see it all the time on old housesites, mulberrys, pecans, camelias and oranges, remnants of the old homesite that keep sprouting out a hundred years later in the middle of a pine forest.
