The leaves might be part of it but I've gotten the impression from from this individual that it is simply not "right" to have "too many" trees in your yard. That that's for forests, but yards are supposed to look like yards. Something along those lines.
I have very little grass as a percentage of my property. And that I cut in a few minutes when needed with an old-fashioned push reel mower. Zero emissions (unless I pass gas while I'm working).
